New York Night Train Gives Austin Maximum R&B w/Glass Candy and more

by Jonathan

NewYorkNightTrain in Texas

Howdy my lovlies, both a family celebration and emergency have brought me to Texas this week. Nonetheless, i filled my suitcase with more than 200 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s r&b, soul, funk (and even a handfull of disco) 45 - curiousities, obscurities, novelties, and hits. Thanks to my loyal ol’ Austin amigos, plus no shortage of fightin’, drinkin’, and gamblin’, I’ve managed to scrape together three amazing gigs before riding out of the sunset towards Houston on Sunday:

Thursday, May 31: Beauty Bar - with one of my favorite 21st Century bands, Portland’s Glass Candy. I’ll be spinning alongside Kid Indie. Because of tonight’s program I may borrow a few more disco curiosities to add to the mix. (10pm - 2am)

Friday, June 1: The Longbranch Inn: Tonight I’ll be at the home base doing what I do best - stretchin it out all night long. Here’s where I throw down the dirty stuff ’til ya can’t take it no more - from rare grooves measured with a few hits - the finest and most unlikely platters I’ve been able to obtain on the East Coast since leaving Austin almost a decade ago. (10:30pm - 2am)

Saturday, June 2: The Peacock This weekly party thrown by ramblin’ man Jason McNeely of Windsor for the Derby fame, who I’m outing as a man about Austin town from way back (as long as me! he just don’t look it ’cause all the ugly wrinkles go to the face in the oil painting in his attic). I’ll be alternating with Jason and a secret weapon he refers to as simply “Tony,” who I’m told will kick my ass all over the tables. The lovely and talented mixologist Carmen perfects the most challenging of beverages on the other end of the room.

Come get down on it every night….
