June 27: Coydogs celebrate record release
by Jonathan
In this age of every conceivable sub-genre on rock’n’roll, the world needs a pure bar band like Coydogs more than ever. A supergroup of sorts featuring the dirty guitar incisions of the Witnesses’ Darian Zahedi and the mighty thud of former Star Spangles’ rhythm section of Nick Storella and Joey Valentine, this combination of important NYC rock scene figures conjures a broader contemporary variant on good ol’ Johnny Thunders/Nikki Sudden East Village/London style r’n’r that’s a unique coalescence of the Faces no-BS immediacy, T-Rexish melodic vocal penchant, relaxed Creedency pacing, Byrds Sweetheart of the Rodeo-ish electric country folk ballads, blues, country, soul, Dylan, Chuck Berry, and dozens of other classic elements that should and do belong together without seeming forced or excessively self-aware. Tonight the boys will be New York Night Train’s guest DJ’s - celebrating the release of their latest single on the English 1965 label, “Nothing On Me”/”Think Twice.” So don’t think twice. Come on in. Grab a copy. Sit a spell.
