We Got Artanker Convoy Rockin’ Through the Night
Their lightly psychedelic groove wallpaper isn’t abstract and weird enough for the crowds of more esoteric label mates Gang Gang Dance, Psychic Ills, and Telepathe. And they’re a bit too abstract and weird for the Madeski, Martin, and Wood jam band set. And, since they don’t fit in very well to any of the trends of contemporary culture, Artanker Convoy has decided to announce that they’re gonna do what everyone else is doing and hop on the new rave band wagon….
Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. This unique Brooklyn sextet has gradually carved out its own little place in our scene – one where their subtle art is combined with pattern projections, modern dancers, and other visual correlatives. The hallucinogenic spatiality of their improvisational journeys belongs less to Silver Apples psych or Tortoise-y post-rock and more to the sort of cross-genre reductionist groove lineage that includes both Ege Bamyasi-era Can and, particularly, On the Corner Miles Davis.
Tonight they transform the Glasslands into their own address as they celebrate the release of their new Social Registry CD/DVD package – Cozy Endings (read NYNT’s review).
