Wednesday, November 28, 2007, NewYorkNightTrain Wednesdays, Motor City (127 Ludlow, Manhattan), 10pm, FREE: If you must go out and damage your liver tonight, it might as well be at Motor City and with an accompanying soundtrack consisting of the quality rock’n’roll selections of New York Night Train Soul Proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin. And, if by chance you have decided against Wednesday night debauchery, then, perhaps I may be able to interest you in….
hursday, November 29, 2007, Transatlantic Timewarp: A Daft Discotheque, Beauty Bar Back Room (231 E. 14th, Manhattan), 11pm, FREE: New York Night Train’s latest venture is a collaboration between the Soul Proprietor and walking musical encyclopedia and rock machine, the indomitable Ms. Melissa Fanni Tutti. The dynamic duo play you the dance music hits from smack dab in the center of popular music’s greatest decade, mostly American and English but often beyond: soul, garage, mod, girl group, bubblegum, and early psychedelics plus a dash of frat r&b, discotheque, boogaloos, tropicalia, yé-yé, latin delights, etc… Let the evening pass by by playing records, the sounds of groovy hi fi. I say “Yeh yeh!” That’s what I say, I say “Yeh, yeh!”
And then, this weekend, I’m beside myself because my personal favorite contemporary entertainer, the 9th Wonder of the 9th Ward, musician/composer/inventor/marching band leader/party-rocker extraordinaire, Quintron, will be in New York to personally deliver fan Laurie Anderson his most popular invention, a brand-new state-of-the-art hand-made Cypress Drum Buddy… and, while he’s here, will be starring in two New York Night Train events this weekend…
