Making a go at channeling the variety inherent in the playlists of the discotheques and radio of the era plus much of the stuff that was too underground at the time to get there, we attempt to cover soul, garage, freakbeat, boogaloo, AM radio pop, British Invasion, electric blues, girl groups, bubblegum, frat rock, late r&b, early funk, early psychedelics, discotheque schmaltz, boogaloos, tropicalia, yé-yé, latin delights, etc.

Tonight Conductor Mr. Jonathan Toubin spins six hours straight of party curiosities, obscurities, and classics for his first visit to the latest incarnation of the legendary basement spot located at 85 Avenue A, Arrow. Come check it out with the train - particularly if you also have a soft spot for one of nyc’s ideal classic party spaces and the spectral variety of quality of raw get-down jams Ants In Yr Pants has become known for - this time weighing heavy on songs with war themes to commemorate the five years of US Iraqi occupation…
Sat, Mar 22, Soul Clap and Dance-Off, Glasslands (289 Kent, Williamsburg), FREE BEER 10pm - 11pm, Dance-Off at MIDNIGHT, $3: New York Night Train Soul Proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin spins the finest in soul 45s, obscurities, novelties, and classics spanning late-r&b to early funk but centering on mid-60s burners - exclusively for your dancing pleasure. As always, there’ll be five celebrity judges, MC Laura Lee, free beer early, a dance competition at midnight (open to the public. sign up early!), and a get-down til 4AM. The soul clap and dance off is rapidly turning out to be one of the city’s more unusual dance contests and one of NYNT’s kookiest events as more and more freaks from god knows where show up to win the pot of gold. In addition to pounding up a storm with Electroputas, Vanity Set, and Boredoms 77 Drummer, Jaiko Suzuki is hands-down one of New York’s finest and most distinctive party-rocking DJs - best known for her fabulous monthly institution Mon Mon Mon Amour at La Caverna. Laying down a vibrant cornucopia of choice global jams, weighing heavily on 1960s French and Japanese pop, Jaiko’s wand will transform Rehab’s upstairs into a classic international discothèque non-parallel.

For the few of you that don’t already know Daddy’s, it is THE bar of the Williamsburg underground music scene (with regular patrons from every band imaginable - and bartenders from Gang Gang Dance, Black Dice, etc.).
