VLADRM at Glasslands
Viva L’American Death Ray Music, VV, K-Holes, Glasslands Gallery (289 Kent), 9pm sharp, $6: though Homosexuals were forced to postpone their tour and won’t make it, wahooo! Viva l’American Death Ray Music’s first NYC show in a couple of years! This legendary Memphis band has been making amazing records for nearly a decade now and, as all are so busy around the world with other projects never get together, rarely make it out on the road. New York is lucky to get two appearances this week by what is still one of the best bands in the world. But don’t take my word for it. The dean of American rock critics, Robert Christgau, describes them as “TIYL Velvets, Television, Taking Tiger Mountain (by Strategy) — that is, roots music, Lower East Side style.” Rolling Stone editor David Fricke describes them as “sexy rock chic from Memphis with a touch of Let It Bleed-era Rolling Stones and White Light White Heat Velvet Underground.” Check out their latest direction here. VV is a secret surprise touring band adorned in Native American accessories. K-Holes are a new local collection of Atlanta expats featuring current and former members of Black Lips, Wet Dreams, Golden Triangle, and McNasty himself (who ain’t actually from Atlanta but married into it)!
