His agent, Michelle Cable of Panache Booking just got back from visiting Garotas Suecas in their native Brazil and brought him an armload of amazing 45s from the 1960s. Tonight he’s gonna test ‘em out – and look out because Michelle may just climb on board and bust out some of her own personal Brazilian finds.

Soul proprietor Mr Jonathan Toubin fills the Beauty Bar’s sleek and sexy back room floor to ceiling with pink bubbly 45rpm soul, pre-funk, and r&b classics, novelties, and obscurities to get you down all night long. The Manhattan party/hangout has seen guest DJs like Daptone proprietor/Sharon Jones bassist/bandleader, Gabriel Roth, Make-Up’s Ian Svenonius, Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes, the legendary Phast Phreddie of the Subway Soul, Kid Congo Powers of the Cramps and Gun Club, Dale Crover of the Melvins, Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening, etc etc etc. So expect not only New York Night Train’s exceptional standard of quality, but also some very distinguished guests and patrons. Sat, June 6: Soul Clap and Dance-Off #23: THE CHAMPIONSHIP with the former Dance-Off winners and guest DJs Kristen and Matty of New Orleans’ Mod Dance Party, Glasslands Gallery (289 Kent, Williamsburg), $3: Free Beer 11pm – Midnight/1AM dance contest: Once a month the man who re-invented subterranean nightlife in the wormy apple, New York Night Train Soul Proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin, whose Brooklyn appearances are increasingly rare as he’s on the road so much of late, twirls explosive 45s spanning late-r&b to early funk but centering on mid-60s burners – exclusively for your get-down pleasure at this legendary Glasslands rager. Imagine hundreds shakin’ and quakin’ to a variety of the most exciting soul 45s of all time pumped up to full punk rock volume and speed at this subcultural art space!
