Soul proprietor Mr Jonathan Toubin fills the Beauty Bar’s sleek and sexy new joint floor to ceiling with bubbly 45rpm soul, pre-funk, and r&b classics, novelties, and obscurities to get you down all night long. The Manhattan party/hangout has seen guest DJs like Daptone proprietor/Sharon Jones bassist/bandleader, Gabriel Roth, Make-Up’s Ian Svenonius, Butthole Surfers’ Gibby Haynes, the legendary Phast Phreddie of the Subway Soul, Kid Congo Powers of the Cramps and Gun Club, Dale Crover of the Melvins, Calvin Johnson of Beat Happening, etc etc etc. So expect not only New York Night Train’s exceptional standard of quality, but also some very distinguished guests and patrons – like tonight, when we have an afterparty for the Oh Sees show!

Because of Mr Toubin’s tight touring schedule, Glasslands was going to skip its July Soul Clap (though you can find Mr Toubin and his famous party later this month in Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Olympia) – but, when Brooke and Rolyn hit a last-minute gaping hole in their schedule, they got with New York Night Train to produce what’s shaping up to be one of the most interesting Soul Claps yet! As Mr Toubin has previous commitments, they have recruited some of his favorite DJs to help the man move this mighty vessel: 11pm – 1am, Billy and Miriam of Norton Records, the legendary tastemakers behind over 30 years of NYC-based underground r’n'r institutions like Norton Records, Kicks Magazine, and A-Bones Enterprises, and, 2am – 4am, Nouvellas’ Chanteuse and former Dansette, Leah Fishman! Sat, July 4: New York Night Train and Panache Booking’s 4th of July Bang with 24 bands and 12 DJs, Union Pool (484 Union, Williamsburg, Brooklyn), 2pm – 4am, $5: As most of you know, the fireworks have been moved to the Hudson River this year. Unless you hate fireworks, or love New Jersey, this is a bummer. New York Night Train and Panache Booking, in no mood to make the trek to the west side or Jersey, got with Union Pool to declare Brooklyn’s independence from all of that and find a place for all of the neighborhood friends to go. Union Pool offered up their spacious courtyard, taco truck, indoor/outdoor stages, front and back rooms for the entire neighborhood underground to perform, DJ, and hang out all day and all night. The bands and tacos begin at 2pm in the courtyard and, after 8pm, the live music migrates to the back room. At 10pm the DJs start upfront and at 2am, the bands stop and its just DJs front and back. Get a load of the following drink specials to keep this holiday light on your wallet: $4 margaritas, moscow mules, Presbyterians, and well drinks, $3 Juengling, Genesse Cream Ale and PBR, and $6 for PBR and shot. The cover is $5 for 24 bands (each playing 4 songs for July 4!), 8 DJs, and much more.
