RECORD RELEASE IS BACK
whaaaa! a really big week on the night train… three weeks of “record release” parties start tomorrow in which New York Night Train gives away every record for free. Shanky afterhours is back on Saturday late late night, Thursday Thump with Josh Styles and Sophie Thunder at Enid’s, a big benefit at Bell House friday followed by Shakin’ All Over at Home Sweet Home, plus Princeton and Portland gigs. really good stuff and loads of holiday parties of all shapes and sizes all over the place in coming weeks…
WEDS, DEC 9: Record Relase at New York Night Train Wednesdays. Motor City Bar (127 Ludlow), 10PM – 4AM, FREE: In honor of the holiday season New York Night Train has a present for you – we will be giving away each and every record we play for free each Wednesday leading up to Christmas between 10pm and 2am. The “Record Release,” a concept developed by Mr. Eric Z of the Mighty Robot and Wolfy of Red Dawn II years ago and revived by New York Night Train a number of times over the last couple of years, is where the records are given away to party-goers immediately after play. This a great excuse for Toubin, who doesn’t sell records, to get rid of doubles and other extras, and for you to pick up lots of amazing 45s and LPs, from standard and worn to valuable, from the 1950s to 2009 – primarily drawing from the 1960s rock and soul canon – but also lots of punk, post-punk, blues, country, and other genres – but all good enough to be included in a New York Night Train DJ set (which this is an exceptional form of). Get there early and stay all night to fill in yr belly, yr ears, and yr record collection!
Thu, Dec 10: Portland, Maine Soul Clap and Dance-Off w/Mr. Jonathan Toubin, Space Gallery (538 Congress St. Portland, ME), 9pm – 1am, $5: Portland, Maine gets the clap – tell yr peops up there…
meanwhile, back in NYC…
Thu, Dec 10: Brooklyn, Thursday Thump w/DJs Sophie Thunder and Josh Styles, Enid’s (560 Manhattan Ave), 10pm – 4am, FREE: You got it – Sophie Thunder has arrived all the way from London to rock your face off with all kinds of obscure glam nuggets, power poppers, punk classics, mod favorites, and more. She will be assisted by New York Night Train’s favorite DJ – her partner in crime, Mr. Josh Styles. You will definitely hear some of the best stuff there is…
and Mr T is back for two events on Friday…
Fri, Dec 11 (early – 8pm – 10pm): The Desk Set’s Biblioball, The Bell House, 8pm, $20/$25: The Desk Set is an organization of librarians who do all kinds of work to promote prison literacy. This night they’ve assembled an astounding cast of DJs, musicians, and artists of every kind to bring you an amazing night benefiting Literacy for Incarcerated Teens w/live music from Nine/11 Thesaurus, Living Days, Hungry March Band, The Rude Mechanical Orchestra, & Lucky Chops Brass Band, foot juggling and trapeze artists The Anne-tipodist & Jean Loscalzo, DJs Jonathan Toubin, Duane Harriott, Rob Sheffield, Rob Dyrenforth, Jay Diamond, Jimmy T., Brian Kraft, Ryan Tozzi, Matt Fiveash, Don Stahl, & Megan Awesome, etc etc etc
