The Clap is back! Mr. Jonathan Toubin‘s only NYC soul gig every month – laying it down from 12AM-4AM – interrupted only by the 1am Dance-Off! The prizes are, as usual, $100 in cash for the winner and a $75 shopping spree from Metropolis Vintage for 2nd place. Hostess Laura Leigh will be there as well as guest contest selector London’s Tony Sylvester (in town to play Santo’s tomorrow as the new vocalist of Turbo Negro! yes, Turbo Negro’s new vocalist is an English soul DJ!) to pick the seven magic contest songs! The Dance-Off will be determined by the following distinguished panel of judges:
- April March – legendary renaissance gal of garage, ye ye, and other worlds…
- Carly Rabalais – photographer/vocalist who will be representing her band XRay Eyeballs
- Lenaya Lynch – formerly of Detroit’s Tranzistors now in NYC representing Habibi
- Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson – Saddle Creek recording artist and great dude-about-town who’s made quite a name for himself the last few years with highly-acclaimed LP’s produced by members of Grizzly Bear and TV on the Radio
- A Strange Boy to Be Named Later – this judge will be a member of the headliner of the early show, Austin’s Strange Boys – while we’re not sure which one – we guarantee whoever it is will be both strange and a boy
