The first official New York Night Train joint since Jonathan Toubin’s December accident in Portland went down Sunday at Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Bowl! 600 NYNT partiers weren’t only treated to wild sets by advertised live acts Kid Congo Powers, the K-Holes, Daddy Long Legs, Andy Animal Unleashed, Expensive Sh!t, Hula Hoop Harlot Melissa Anne, and Anna Copa Cabana, plus supremo DJ’s Mr. Fine Wine and Josh Styles, and crazy visuals by Spencer Bewley and B.A. Miale, but they were also surprised by musical cameos from April March, Mick Collins of Gories/Dirtbombs/Blacktop, etc, and James Chance of Contortions/James White and the Blacks/etc. And… also did we mention that Jonathan Toubin himself hit the decks for over an hour?

The New York Night Train parties have been on hold while Jonathan Toubin recovers from his December 8 accident in Portland, OR (read this feature from the New York Times or this interview with our DJ/conductor from Rolling Stone). While he was sedated, benefits in Toubin’s honor everywhere from New York (Spin review) to San Francisco to Detroit to New Orleans and dozens of party points in between featuring performances by everybody from Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Margaret Cho. The good news is that, after months of healing in Portland, Jonathan Toubin is finally ready to come home and get back to work.

His OFFICIAL WELCOME BACK PARTY is SUNDAY, MAY 6 at BROOKLYN BOWL in the form of a NY Night Train HAPPENING – all-night multi-media dance party/spectacle. It will feature a cast that includes some of Toubin’s favorite regular collaborators/friends. And, at the DJ’s request, the night will be absolutely FREE thanks to a sponsorship from the good folks at Brooklyn Brewery! Read about it in Pitchfork…
