Jack Martin by Nick Zinner

Jack Martin – ISSUE Project Room $10

It looks like it's ladies night once again.. For the first time in months, local guitar ace Jack Martin lays it sweet and lowdown for ya in a rare solo appearance. A reluctant garage rock hero of sorts, Martin, who's best known for his dynsmic duo guitar collaborations with Kid Congo Powers in Kid Congo and the Pink Monkey Birds, Knoxville Girls, and Congo Norvell, also happens to be one heck of an inventive, accomplished, and stylish jazzy guitarist. For some years now he’s been dropping his instrumentals in clubs, art spaces, and concert halls with Dimestore Dance Band (or Ensemble), his post-modern noirish skronky homage to guitar manouche. This evening he’ll be joined by a couple of his fellow Dimestore cohorts, , viola player Dylan Willemsa (Nina Nastasia, Daniel Carter, etc.) and bassist Jude Webre (The Places, MF Doom, etc.), and, additionally, one of the finest drummers in contemporary music, the Dirty Three’s Jim White (also known for his work with Palace, Smog, Cat Power, Nick Cave, etc.) I can’t imagine this collection of folks being anything less than stellar, particularly in the warm round confines of the ISSUE Project Room’s performance space.
