Radios Appear Tonight!

Radio Birdman

Didja ever dream you’d get a chance to witness this? Sydney’s finest Detroit rock’n’roll band of all time is back together, embarking upon their first American tour in decades, and playing New York tonight.

Before Sex Pistols were even a glimmer in Malcolm McLaren’s eye, even before he had the New York Dolls in red patent leather, and yes, even a couple of years before the Saints down under, there was Radio Birdman. Not as widely heralded as still-underrated US bands in a similar vein, like The Dictators or DMZ, the Australian sextet’s legend has loomed larger and larger with each passing year as each new generation discovers now canonical works like “Burn My Eye,” “New Race,” “Aloha Steve and Danno,” and “Murder City Nights.”

Returning to claim their rightful place as one of the finest r’n’r outfits of all time, the Australian reunion shows in recent years have been met with nearly unanimous acclaim. The current lineup includes two/thirds of the original band, vocalist Rob Younger, the super-sonic balls out guitar team of Deniz Tek (who was born and raised in Ann Arbor before relocating to Australia) and Chris Masuak, and keyboardist Phillip ‘Pip’ Hoyle, and a new rhythm section of bassist Jim Dickson and drummer Russell Hopkinson.

With the raw power of awesome Detroit-to-Brooklyn migrants Awesome Color, tonight’s show is a must.
