Dead Meadow, The Slip, Mobius Band, Psychic Ills, DJ Child Labor, DJ Image - McCaren Pool Park FREE, 2 - 8PM

This is a little more like it. Despite two heavily-pushed fair-to-midland next-big-whatevers thrown fittingly in the middle of the bill, the two east coast rock institutions at the bookends of this show make it totally worthwhile. Headliners Dead Meadow, who helped change the heavy rock landscape a few years ago, still capture my attention and I’m sure are still capable of losing you in a perfectly loud afternoon. Then, in the middle, are jam band The Slip and the Boston-to-Williamsburg migrants Mobius Band, whose poppy electro-laden post-rock sounds interesting on paper, still haven’t managed to do much for me. But, of the entire bill I look forward to the opener Psychic Ills and anyone who reads this rag knows that I’m a huge advocate. The Ills’ uniquely groove-laden mindblow sits at a blurry intersection of Red Krayola’s Parable of the Arable Land, Can’s Ege Bamyasi (but really are all over that band’s map), and the shoegazer canon. Go here if you want to get more in-depth with my review of their brilliant full-length debut Dins. And in broad daylight once again. Consider me there early.
