Breakup Breakdown, Moto:Rosa, Other Passengers, Damon McMahon - Fontana's $5

If you’re down with the new folk you should stop what you’re doing at get down with my main man Damon McMahon. Damon, best known around the ‘hood, the UK, and a few other choice dots on the globe as the dude from local art-rockers Inouk, has gone solo and accoustic of late and has a new record, Mansions, that quietly appeared a few weeks ago on Astralwerks. The LP comes from a collection of demos he made while still in the band – most of which consist only Damon and his guitar home alone with a microphone. The result is one of the most effectively elegant records to appear this year. With nary a wasted note or word, Damon’s airy skeletal masterpieces evoke pure feeling and breathy intimacy. Literate, romantic, tuneful, and even painful at times, the songs of Damon McMahon are for real. They possesses a creeping intesnsity extraordinary enough that, even if you’re not down with the new folk, you may stop what you’re doing and get down with my man Damon McMahon regardless.

Tonight you'll find Damon's quiet thunder on a packed rock bill assembled by Sentimentalist magazine.
