Not only a cafe and record store, with some of the better coffee and baked goods in the neighborhood, but the Cake Shop’s the only New York venue offering live underground music from the indie side of the whoopie pie every night of the week. Staffed by music-lovers who’ve done plenty of time in the scene, the basement’s booking policy’s both well-informed and diverse… And they now have a full bar.
