Soul Party #2 @ MOTOR CITY

Tonight, the secret society for the soul party revival, new york chapter local 23 (join it!)continues its mission with a second experiment, this time at MOTOR CITY, entitled simply SOUL PARTY #2. The usual NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN WEDNESDAY will continue to remain in the rawer realm of 50s R&B, 60s SOUL, and PROTO-FUNK, with an occasional SOUL JAZZ, LATIN SOUL, FAST BLUES, FUNK, or r&b oriented MOD or GARAGE cut. Also, due to our surprise successes with the material last time, we’ll also be pumping in an extra dose of tunes from the soulful side of DOO WOP, BUBBLEGUM, and GIRL GROUP universes… and, may I be as bold as to suggest, the occasional SLOW JAMS. JACK MARTINs dance-off competition will be in effect at midnight. Tonight’s festivities will also include a late-night SURPRISE GUEST DJ ALL THE WAY FROM LOUISIANA. We hope to employ our significant stockpile of ’45s to find out whether or not we can make Motor City get down hard and heavy mid-week. The rain obstacle only encourages us more. Tonight will be a large step for us and a small step towards our goal of turning New York into a soul-clap inferno. Soul galore - in all it’s flavors… Feel free to participate, observe, or merely listen….

After tonight the conductor’ll be gettin’ outta town for a bit. He’ll be replaced by next week by the legendary BOB BERT (ex-Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore) as my host/main DJ. The final two weeks of the month will be rounded out with guest DJ’s KID CONGO POWERS and JAIKO SUZUKI respectively… Give it up for Wednesday…
