NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN THANKS YOU FOR MAKING 2009 AMAZING!

Call him what you want – but don’t say he’s lazy. Mr Jonathan Toubin went global in 2009 – packing houses worldwide while keeping the New York Night Train chugging back home. Among other activities like designing 100s of posters, going on 100s of record-buying expeditions (both exotic and mundane), keeping up his website, facebook, twitter, myspace, mailing list, etc., partying practically every night, and trying to go to all of your shows, art openings, and dj nights on rare nights off, Mr. Toubin DJ-ed and/or promoted over 318 events in 2009 (there are far too many nights to keep a precise tally) including:

– 194 weekly NYC residency gigs (51 New York Night Train Wednesdays at Motor City, 52 Thursday Thump at Enid’s, 52 Shakin’ All Over Under Sideways Down at Home Sweet Home, and 39 Boogaloo Shampoo at Beauty Bar)

– at least 71 Mr. Jonathan Toubin road gigs in Israel, Turkey, Mexico, four Canadian stints, four west coast tours, and parties like Get Back (Las Vegas), Hole In My Soul (Portland), and Oldies Night (San Francisco)

– dozens of gigs featuring prestigious guest DJs like David Johansen, Jon Spencer, Gibby Haynes, James Chance, Daptone Records’ Head Honcho Gabriel Roth, Kid Congo Powers and Howie Pyro, Fine Wine, Norton Records, Todd O Phonic Todd, and, mostly, his favorite DJs Josh Styles and Ian Svenonius

– at least 32 Soul Clap and Dance-Off parties worldwide, some with MCs Laura Leigh and Ian Svenonius and judges like Mike Watt, Jello Biafra, and members of all kinds of new bands from punks like Monotonix to pop stars like MGMT.

– at least 26 Mr. Jonathan Toubin NYC one-off DJ gigs

– at least 18 rock shows like Jon Spencer Blues Explosion reunion, Oh Sees, Jelly NYC Pool Party with Mission of Burma, Fucked Up, and Ponytail, King Khan and the Shrines, Quintron/Ms Pussycat, even Faith No More, Dinosaur Jr, MGMT and LCD Soundsystems

– at least 16 afterhours gigs – multiple turns at the Shank, Todd P stuff, Rubulad, loft parties, and road stuff

– 8 Happenings on the east coast and midwest – multi-media dance parties with DJs, performance, projections, go go dancers, and bands like HEALTH, Psychic Ills, Chain and the Gang, etc,

– festivals and special events: Vice Scion Garage Rock Festival (Portland), CMJ (NYC), WFMU Record Fair (NYC), Fun Fun Fun (Austin), Pop Montreal, NXNE (Toronto), Sled Island (Calgary), Ponderosa Stomp (New Orleans), and SXSW (Austin) – where he not only DJ-ed two afterhours parties but curated events like Boogaloo Shampoo w/the
King Khan and the Shrines
, and the 4th Annual NYNT SXSW Hoodang w/Sky Saxon, Crystal Stilts, Kid Congo, etc etc etc

– highbrow gigs at places like the Brooklyn Museum, Princeton University, Erin Wasson RVCA Fashion Show, Bowery Hotel, the Downtown LA Hotel Standard, etc.

– an indeterminable amount of guest spots, benefits, and private events

– community-oriented holiday gigs like a New Years party at 3 downtown venues, indoor/outdoor 4th of July w/dozens o/bands and DJs, St. Patty’s at Daddy’s, Thanksgiving and Memorial Day at Enid’s, Christmas Eve at Southpaw, Christmas at Home Sweet Home, Valentines Day with Ian Svenonius at four venues .
